Barbara Yeaman: 1924 – 2025

On April 6, the Delaware Highlands Conservancy’s beloved founder, Barbara Yeaman, handed away on the age of 100. Pushed by a purpose to guard the clear, clear waters of the Delaware River, Barbara based the Conservancy in 1994 at age 70. Her personal property alongside the river in Milanville, PA grew to become one of many Conservancy’s first conservation easements, setting a long-lasting instance for land stewardship.

Collectively along with her accomplice, Ed Wesely, Barbara welcomed hundreds to their land over time for joyful Meadow Events, instructional visits to the Butterfly Barn to find out about monarch butterflies, and numerous conversations that nurtured a deep love for conservation. Guided by her imaginative and prescient, the Conservancy has flourished, defending greater than 19,000 acres on either side of the Delaware River in Pennsylvania and New York.

All through her life, Barbara was honored with quite a few awards, together with the Lifetime Conservation Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Land Belief Affiliation, the Environmental Partnership Award from the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, and the Ralph W. Abele Conservation Heritage Award from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Fee.

Barbara’s legacy is one among kindness, compassion, and fierce willpower. She motivated all who knew her to take care of the pure world, and her legacy will proceed to information and encourage us for generations to come back.

Celebration of Life

The Yeaman household, along with the Board of Administrators and workers of the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, cordially invite you to attend a Celebration of Life honoring Barbara Yeaman on Saturday, June 21 from 11am-1pm on the Conservancy’s Van Scott Nature Reserve.

The Van Scott Nature Reserve is situated at 571 Perkins Pond Rd, Seashore Lake, PA, 18405.

Contributions in Barbara’s reminiscence could also be made to the Delaware Highlands Conservancy on the deal with above or on-line, and can help the Barbara Yeaman Fund for Land Conservation.

The day will embody a dedication ceremony for Barbara’s Bench, situated alongside the Butterfly Path within the wildflower meadow overlooking the Reserve. Household and buddies will supply remarks in celebration of Barbara’s lengthy lifetime of service and the legacy of her dedication to our treasured Delaware Highlands.
